Description
Homer's Odyssey is not the only version of the story. Mythic material was originally oral, and also local -- a myth would be told one way in one place and quite differently in another. Published in 1808, this volume follows in the footsteps of Lamb's 1807 Tales from Shakespeare, which adapted Shakespeare's plays for young readers. Here Lamb turns to Homer's Odyssey, with equally delightful results. While younger audiences will respond to Lamb's storytelling skills, adults will appreciate his graceful, lyrical prose.

This edition employs Samuel Butler's classic translations of both texts. The Iliad, which tells of the siege of Troy by the Greeks, is an unforgettable tale of nations at war and of the courage and compassion heroic soldiers show upon the field of battle.
