This is the story of the Nipmuck Chaubunagungamaug people in Massachusetts. In 1979 Nipmuck Elders began a petiton to the US government asking to be recognized as they were in colonial times. Twenty-five years and 70,000 pieces of documentary evidence later, the petition was denied. Now, from the ashes of their struggle, the Nipmuck are emerging as a renewed, stronger, and wiser people.
